This visit is an essential follow-up to the talk in March by Anne Pinder, the hall’s administrator. Lytham Hall was built by John Carr c1760, at about the time he was involved with Fairfax House. The comparison between the two properties extremely interesting.

The stucco ceilings are perhaps the chief ornament of the house, but there are many more fine features, including one of Carr’s favourite motifs, a grand Venetian window. And, who knows, by this time we may have discovered a bit more about the enigmatic relationship between Thomas Clifton of Lytham and Anne Fairfax of York.

Anne Pinder will give us a private tour of the house, after which we will enjoy a soup and sandwich lunch in the old kitchen which has been transformed into a charming tea room. Afterwards there should be time for a leisurely stroll around the attractive grounds.
