Supplying the Georgian Country House with Prof. Jon Stobart

The country house is often considered to be the ultimate expression of aristocratic taste and power. In this lecture Prof. Jon Stobart (Manchester Metropolitan University) offers a rich insight into understanding the Georgian Country House as a place of elite consumption. Looking at everyday objects through to luxury goods consumed within these elite spaces, he examines the web of supply and the relationships with retailers and craftsmen that serviced the grand country house. He will consider the practicalities involved as well as the underlying motivations which shaped choices and purchases to ultimately reanimate the Georgian Country House with people, goods and ideas.
