The Genius of Gibbons
Grinling Gibbons (1648-1721) is one of Britain’s greatest woodcarvers. Eventually known as the ‘King’s Carver’, his career and natural talent took him across the great houses and palaces of Britain. Gibbons spent his early creative years in York where he produced the magnificent King David Panel, now a centrepiece of the Fairfax House collection.
