SUMMARY:Ruth Beloe: Snapshots of Fairfax House
DESCRIPTION:For the first time\, Fairfax House welcomes contemporary art into its historic interiors. Since January 2025\, artist Ruth Beloe has been painting here\, capturing the house’s stillness and charm in small oil paintings. Displayed where they were created\, these works offer a fresh view of the beauty of Fairfax House\, with sales supporting the conservation of our porcelain collection. \nSee the exhibition with your General Admission ticket until the 30th September \nA note from the artist\n“Fairfax House is a wonderful period townhouse\, a favourite place of mine since moving to York. I have enjoyed escaping into this Georgian world\, spending time surrounded by the beautiful objects\, paintings and furnishings which are curated in such an appealing way. The displays are constantly changed to create new interior scenes and I could find inspiration here for many years.” \nAbout the Artist:\nRuth’s work captures what she finds beautiful\, whether an everyday object\, a spectacular costume\, or a view. She trained at Charles H. Cecil Studios in Florence\, studying portrait and figurative work using the ‘sight-size’ technique. After returning to the UK\, she established a studio in Ely\, took on portrait commissions in charcoal and clay\, and served as Artist in Residence at the King’s School. She later worked in an artists’ foundry to deepen her knowledge of bronze casting. For the past 15 years\, she has focused on oil painting\, returning to Florence regularly to refine her technique. She now works from her home studio in York. \nPaintings available at: www.oilpaintandclay.com/shop\nEnquiries to: beloecr@gmail.com
