The Tea Caddy
Izzy, Year 5
Once, in the Georgian era, there was a very grand, beautiful house, and that house was Fairfax House! The owners of Fairfax House had many beautiful possessions. One of those gorgeous things was a lovely tea caddy. She was one of their prize possessions and they treasured her greatly.
One day, when the Fairfax family were having their usual delicious breakfast of wheat porridge, it turned out that a maid had an eye for their tea caddy. You see, the night before she had been teasing her brother and he took her favourite dress and said he wouldn’t give it back until she gave him something interesting. So she saw the tea caddy and took it to trade with her brother. The problem was that she didn’t know how valuable it was but there was something even more valuable inside. It was the TEA! The maid hid the tea caddy inside her pocket. At the end of her day she took it home. When she got home she called “Jack I’m home, I’ve got the thing I’m going to trade with you!” He didn’t answer. So she knew he would be home soon.
Suddenly, the tea caddy woke up! And started yelling, “AAAARRRRRHHHH!!!!! Where am I? I want to go back home!” At first the maid was very surprised, but then she said, “Don’t worry! Calm down! Sit and we will have some tea.”
“OK,” replied the beautiful tea caddy.
“Do you mind?” said the maid, slowly indicating to the tea in her stomach!
“Oh, not at all,” she said softly.
The maid took some tea out and made it. “Mmmm, this is the best tea I’ve ever had!” the maid cried, as she was slowly slurping her tea.
“Oh, yes, I forgot to mention, why on earth did you steal me?” the tea caddy burst out!
“Oh, well, you see…” mumbled the maid as she played with her hair, “uh, well…”
“JUST SPIT IT OUT, GIRL!!” the caddy screamed.
“My brother took my favourite dress and said he wouldn’t give it back until I gave him something interesting in return!” she spluttered.
“Well, I’m flattered that you thought I was interesting, but just take me back to Fairfax House!” So the maid did as she was told and took her back to Fairfax House! And the tea caddy shone once again.
